The issue is drug cartels and drug trafficking and how they affect the world and not just Mexico. I chose this topic because I want to educate everyone of the affects, other than murder, that the drug war has on people who don't live in Mexico. I also chose it because I find it so interesting how a group of people can have so much control over countries. It's just amazing in a bad way how easy government officials get manipulated all because of money. That is also something I am passionate about. Figuring out how money talks so easily to government officials. Is the money they offer them really worth more than their jobs, careers, and even life?
My issue is a very important issue because the drug war is going unnoticed and it is the biggest ongoing problem so far. It isn't fair that the US is just watching and hearing about our bordering state having drug cartel problems and having a mini war going on and them not do anything to try and stop it. It's important because a lot of people are dying. Some of them being innocent people who had nothing to do with the cartels. With that being said I hope to accomplish being able to change the way young people or teenagers think about cartels. I don't want them to keep thinking that the cartels are something cool & their lucky because they get a lot of money and girls. I want them to think of cartels as a very dangerous powerful group that needs to be stopped before they start getting even more notorious.
This issue should matter to you because although you may not be involved with any type of drugs it still affects you in other ways. Those ways being that you should at least care about the little girls who get kidnapped and sold by the cartels to the sex prostituting industry. You should care about weapons from the US being shipped to Mexico to be used in the drug war. The money to make those weapons most likely come from the taxes you pay. Another reason why you should care about my topic is because there is going to be more crime in your neighborhood since Chicago gangs are linked up with Mexican drug cartels.
Another reason why I'm so passionate about this issue is because a drug cartel has in fact kidnapped a family member of mine. My cousin who lives in Durango was kidnapped and held for ransom. The cartel wanted his family to pay $1,000. My aunt did n't have that type of money so she called all of our family in the US and asked if they could let her borrow some money to get her son back. That was a scary moment in all of our lives because we never thought that the cartels would ever kidnap someone from our family. It was really shocking and eye opening to all of us. That caused us to be more careful with any information we put out on any social media networks or anywhere.
I'm not the only one that this has happened to. Other families have also been the victims of a cartel kidnap. This issue is important to other people that are different than me because they still get affected the same way any one else will. It should be of critical importance because they should start ti care about what's happening in their surroundings and not just worry about themselves, or state, or city, or country.
Thesis: Drug cartels and drug trafficking are not just an issue in Mexico, they are also an issue in the United States and all over the world only because the criminal justice system is so corrupt.
