POV 1
Most informed people believe that the Mexican drug cartels are horrible. Yet, there are some people who view that whole drug lifestyle as a “way of life.” Some people idolize drug traffickers and find the drug lords attractive. One girl even goes as far as to say that she wants to be the girlfriend of a narco. In Mexico some people see the narcos as the “modern-day Robin Hoods” because they see them as their heroes (Mexico’s Narco Cultura: Glorifying Drug War Death and Destruction). Another way that people show their glorification towards the narcotraficante life is by the narco corridos (a drug ballad) that some musical groups sing. That type of music movement is called El Movimiento Alterado. El Movimiento Alterado is a type of music where musicians explicitly sing about the drug violence, decapitations, and tortures happening in Mexico due to the narcos (Do Narcocorridos Glorify Drug Violence? — Review of ‘Narco Cultura’ Documentary). Some people show their glorification to the narco life because they go to event houses to listen to that type of music and stories of people who have been cut up, tortured, and murdered. The people singing along to the songs most likely aren’t even thinking about the actual story behind that song.
