Social Justice philosophy
Social Justice to me is everyone being able to have the same opportunities as everyone else. No one should be treated differently based on skin color, documentation, or because they don’t speak the same language as you. Social justice to me is also being a human being to others. What I mean by that is treating everyone how you would want to be treated and actually believe in that. You need to know and be able to understand that not everyone is born into the same opportunities. Not everyone got lucky enough to be born with money. Its also using the knowledge that you have and making the place you live in a better place for you, your family, your surrounding people, and future generations.
Although everyone should be striving to make the world a better place, they aren’t. Some historical obstacles to achieve social justice is that there are still many close minded people in this world. There have always been and will always be close minded people in this world. Other historical obstacles may be that everyone wasn’t raised to fight for what they believe in. That’s a historical obstacle because that sort of mentality gets passed on from generation to generation. Some current obstacles of achieving social justice is that many people don’t care about anything but themselves. Since they don’t care about anything but themselves they don’t care for doing anything to help anyone else.
Some techniques that help us achieve social justice are not caring what others think about you. If you care about what others think about you then you will most likely stop and drop everything that you’re doing just to please them. My role in the struggle for social justice will be to always voice my opinion. The fire inside of me is to find equalness for everyone. I don’t want to witness anyone being made fun of or being laughed at over something they have no control over. Something I can do right now is stand up for those who need my help.
My issue, which is drug cartels/trafficking, is a social justice issue because drug cartels have a huge impact on the families or people who live around their selling area or live in the countries where the drug wars are going on. The drug cartels have a huge impact on those people because they have more power than the police. Most people don’t even come out of their houses anymore because of the fear they have against the drug lord or cartels. The drug cartels also have a huge impact on store owners because they are forced to pay the drug lords or cartels a certain amount of money just for having/running/owning a store. The main people being affected are only minorities and people who don’t really know how to defend themselves. They are also the easiest targets because they are poor so of course the younger kids are going to want to join them in order to get easy money. My Fire Project issue is a social justice issue because it affects people of color and we all know about it but do nothing to help.
